Lesson 8
Putting it all together: VIDEO

Welcome to week 8! This is our final lesson culminating in your final video project. This week, we will have a virtual conference call to demonstrate some easy video editing techniques, discuss best practices, and a have an open time for questions and answers.

Details

When: Monday from 4 - 6pm CST (so you can have the rest of the week to complete the project)

Where: you will get an email with a link for the Google Meet

What: Live virtual conference

Prior to the meeting

  • Familiarize yourself with Google Meet HERE (it's pretty easy; you should just be able to click and you're on!)

  • Download Adobe Rush HERE - this is the app we will use to edit video. It's a great introductory video editing app, and it's free. If you are a more advanced user, feel free to use the software of your choice (Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, etc.) and join us for the video conference for discussion on best practices and Q&A. You will still learn valuable information beyond basic editing techniques.

  • Watch the quick tutorials on Adobe Rush below so you can get the most out of our time together on the virtual call.

YOUR TURN

This week there are two components you will be graded on. First, participation during the virtual conference call and second, the completed video project due at the end of the week.

How you will be graded for this week's virtual conference and project

You will be graded on your participation during the call in the following ways:

  • Joining the call is worth 6 points.

  • You will get 5 points based on your participation during the in-call activity:

    • 1 point for completing the requested task (you'll have to join to find out what it is!)

    • 2 points for finding a copyright-free stock photo (instructions will be given during the activity on the call)

    • 2 points for participation in the color matching game.

  • You will get 1 point for asking a thoughtful question during the Q&A session.

You will be graded on the following components of your completed video project

  • Video due at the end of the week

  • Video must include:

    • A lesson of your choosing

    • A title slide or sequence

    • Graphics, images, or video clips that are either your original work or copyright free and compliment the content of your lesson

    • Copyright free music in at least one segment

    • Voice over in at least one segment

    • Have agreement between verbal and visual communication

    • Minimum of 5 minutes in length

In summary, this week we covered a lot of ground in video best practices as well as ways to ensure your visuals compliment you instruction and content. We also discussed accessibility and creating closed captions for your videos.

Now that we have finished this course, you should be able to integrate visuals with your instructional design with confidence and coordination!

After your final project has been turned in, your work will be graded and upon satisfactory assessment, you will be emailed your certificate of completion. Please allow up to four weeks for our process to assess your work and email your certificate.

YOUR TURN

This concludes our time together. After you complete your final project, please take the exit interview survey below. This exit survey is your opportunity to share your experience with us so we can improve this course for future students. It would mean a lot to us if you could take 5-10 minutes to let us know how we did.
